    Question

I called JE yesterday to get prices for pistons and they say they offer srp and je. srp are quieter and are good up to 400hp. They highly recommend those for street. On the other hand the je are alot stronger but will have piston slap so are recommended more for racing only applications. The price differece is about 30.00 per cylinder (srp $389 set and JE are $512 set of 4).

    1) How much HP can I expect to get w/ a turbo at 10, 15, 20 psi?

    2) At what psi do you have to start o-ringing the block and getting it resleeved? I don't think I want to take it that far. I realize it would be good for any FI but what is the the limit to say don't go any further w/o doing this.

The guy at JE said that 9.5:1 compression would be the max w/ 15 psi with good tunning. But would recommend 9.0:1 to be on the safer side.

My dilema now.. My hatch will be s/c'd at 8 psi for the first year or so till I can pay off the debt of engine cost and swap, pistons, rods, seals, and bearings, and gaskets. By that time hopefully the zdyne ecu will be out for obd1 and I would by that first b4 the turbo. I want descent performance out of the s/c'd engine in the meantime.

    3) 9.5:1 srp pistons sounds like a winner to me but am not very sure, I don't expect to get more than 280 to the fly w/ the s/c'r, but I am also looking into the forward what is ya'll input on the compression ratio??

    4) I am also going to be boring the block .010mm over, by how much if any does that increase displacement, would you suggest .020 over??

    5) Btw, I am looking at getting crower rods (damned they are expensive -- $639) and Total seal rings (gapless) $140, clevite rod bearings (50.00), and arp head studs and rod bolts. Am I missing something, any suggestions??

Well you have alot of info to answer...I will cover it as best as possible...

1...you really cant figure Horsepower from the anmount of boost...there are too many variables

2...If you are sticking with the supercharger and not going to high on boost I would just leave the block alone...If you plan on going high boost on a turbo setup...I would sleeve it if you can afford it...BRE has a nice Sleeve/Pinning setup

3...If you stick with the supercharger I would leave the stock compression....you will have to up the boost to make up the difference in compression...that will up the charge temps alot...producing more detonation...and the extra rpm on the charger will cause extra wear and tear on the unit

4...and as far as boring the motor out...you dont want to do that with any kind of forced induction...the only way I would recomend boring the motor would be if you have stronger sleeves installed and you want to up displacement a little

5...total seal rings are nice...but you need to make sure the honing is done in a cross hatch pattern...otherwise these rings will not seal and you will be hating life!!...and as far as bearings go stick with the Honda bearings....do not use aftermarket ones...the honda ones are the best out there!!...and last but not least the ARP....you can never be to safe...if you have the money use the ARP rod and head bolts

If you need more info feel free to email me

WHO WOULD YOU HAVE TO CALL TO GET THE BLOCK WORKED ON? I HAVE A CIVIC HB CX. GONNA DO A GSR SWAP. AND MOST LIKELY TURBO.
GSREV, DROP ME AN EMAIL AND LET ME KNOW HOW MUCH THE PISTONS, RODS , ECT.AND ALL COST YOU. WHILE I HAVE THE ENGINE OUT, I MIGHT AS WELL BEEF UP THE BLOCK. YA KNOW!
CIVICR, WHAT DO YOU GOT GOING IN YOUR VX HB.
